“Twin cities reaching out in friendship”
The beginnings of the relationship between Bristol and Tbilisi stemmed from the early 1980s when the late Paul Garland started to lobby Bristol City Council. A twinning agreement was signed on 12th July 1988 and later that year the Bristol Tbilisi Association (BTA) was formed with Paul as its founder chairman. This twinning agreement includes co-operation in the fields of culture, the economy and public life, and exchanges in such fields as science, technology, arts, tourism, youth and sports.
